Monica’s therapeutic approach is collaborative; to work together to create a comfortable space to process trauma and pain without judgment or expectations. She has experience working with LGBTQ+, sex workers, survivors of abuse and intimate partner violence, people who struggle with mental illness, and people who have experienced other types of trauma.
Her approach is generally talk therapy through a radical and intersectional lens. She appreciates the interconnectedness of body and mind, space, climate, and identity, and how all of that can play a role in how trauma and mental illness affects us. She takes a strengths-based approach, using mindfulness and other tools which seek to embolden and nourish the body and mind, and help reflect needs in self and in an inclusive community.
Monica is a Licensed Masters Social Worker with a specialization in clinical Behavioral Health. She earned her Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. She has also completed courses in Trauma-Focused CBT, Trauma Informed Care, and Psychological First Aid.
“I think it is healing behavior, to look at something so broken and see the possibility and wholeness in it.” ― Adrienne Maree Brown, Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds
