Maija Castro
Professional Counselor (LCSW-C)
All people strive to reach their fullest potential. In order to do so, they need to be seen, heard, understood, accepted, and loved. Hardship, trauma, and stress changes the way we are in-tune with ourselves, in relation to others, and make sense of life. Maija believes therapy is a supportive place to foster growth and change through the therapeutic relationship and our shared human experiences.
She builds comfortable, warm, nurturing space and genuine relationship in order to foster self-awareness and an individual's capacity to self-heal. She blends humanistic-existential, cognitive, transpersonal, and attachment frameworks to meet her client's interests and needs. She has certification and training in trauma, grief, interpersonal violence/ domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, stress management, and ADHD. She is passionate about the mind- body- spirit connection, with a background in energy work and mindfulness.
Maija's training in integrative approaches while living in Vermont led her to seek further education. She completed her Master of Clinical Social Work at the University of St. Thomas and Master of Holistic Health Studies at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She believes individuals must be understood within and cannot be separated from their environment and experiences. Just as the mind, body, and spirit are connected and impact the wellbeing of all individuals. She has professionally and personally seen deep transformational experiences when holistic approaches are integrated with traditional talk psychotherapy. Therapy doesn't have to be intimidating. Maija likes to take an informal and relational approach. She gets a bit giddy when therapy gets philosophic and spiritual. She loves to bring in humor, pop-culture, literature, art, music to make the process more fun.
